HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
Opening your heart and home to an international student is a rewarding experience that creates a lasting global friendship.
Hosting an international student can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences. You are opening up your heart and home to someone with different traditions from yours. Nonetheless, by the end of the year, you will find that you have more similarities than differences with your host student.
Welcoming an international student into your home is a way of introducing your family to a new culture while supporting cross-cultural understanding. You will undoubtedly also create further opportunities for bonding, forming a more cohesive family unit.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A HOST FAMILY?
MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY requires our host families provide our international students with the following:
- A caring, loving environment by treating the student as part of the family
- A private furnished bedroom
- 3 daily meals such as a self-prepared breakfast by you or the student, lunch at home on weekends, sack lunch on weekdays for school (unless student purchases lunch at school which is at the student’s expense), and a hot dinner
- Transportation to/from school, including any school-related activities
MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY host family members also undergo a thorough approval screening process, in which MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY performs criminal background checks of all household members (persons 18 years of age or older). Trained MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY Coordinators conduct home inspections of the prospective host families’ homes, orient families, and monitor the students’ and host families’ progress during the program on a regular basis.
The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY ensures all students have insurance coverage during their stay in the U.S. Coordinators are available to provide host families and students with guidance and support throughout the program. The MY AMERICAN HOMESTAY National Office is also available 24/7 to assist should any issues arise.
Compensation for the host family varies by city and state.
